The Right Kind of Medicine

Last Saturday I had lunch with my mom. She had texted me earlier in the week, something to the effect of "Lunch on Saturday or Sunday? We need to catch up." My initial thought was that we'd had lunch together not too long ago & were basically caught up. Regardless, I texted back that Saturday would work for me & so we met up.

I had no idea how much I'd needed that lunch until I was driving away from Applebee's {3+ hours later, mind you} with my spirits lifted to ten times the height they'd been earlier that morning. It wasn't any one thing, not the fact that she'd bought my lunch or taken me to the store & bought me cold medicine or made sure to tell me how beautiful she thinks I am at least six times or asked interested question after interested question about every facet of my life, it was more that she seemed to intuitively know that I needed a lunch, some love, some medicine, even when I had no idea how terribly much.

I've been feeling kind of bowled over by change lately, and it's just nice to know that some things, like passing three hours in the blink of an eye talking about everything & nothing with my mom, will never change.

  3. Sigh. Moms are really the best, aren't they? Last summer, when I was in my last week of studying for the bar exam, my mom's car was stolen. Later that day, she came over to my house with two huge bags of groceries, fresh flowers, and lots of goodies to keep me from losing my mind. On the same day HER CAR WAS STOLEN. Completely selfless.
