I Heart Arizona

Growing up, I never appreciated living in Arizona. Both of my parents are from southern California and that is where nearly all of my extended family lives. A couple of years before I was born, my parents lived in Hawaii. I felt like being raised in Arizona was a raw deal. This feeling stuck with me until a few months ago, right around the time I started my new job and Japan was hit by the earthquake-tsunami combo.

I realized that I could do a lot worse than Arizona.

Arizona is beautiful.

It is a place that holds such different depictions of nature only a short car ride away from one another.

Arizona is hot, really, really hot, but it is not humid, and we can wear flip flops on Christmas. My state does not have to contend with natural disasters, and one can buy a decent home for less than a half million dollars. Plus, it is one of only three US states that my company has an office in.

In other words, my parents totally got it right. Arizona is an amazing place to have a family, or even just a 2-bedroom apartment and some cats.

Yes, please.

Do you heart your state?

  1. This post made me happy. I adore Arizona. Actually I know a lot of Nebraska people who do :) I grew up going to Scottsdale/Phoenix area a couple times a year...and it's always been a place near and dear to my heart. Even when I fly in now (with or without my mom/dad) I still always try to spot Camelback mountain from the air!!! Happy Monday!

  2. You know, Minnesota is pretty much a bastard all the time (giant blizzards in the winter, 90 degrees and humid in the summer, with some tornadoes and thunderstorms thrown in between) but I love it here. The lakes, the scenery, the gorgeous colors of fall and the first days of spring after a long (LONG) winter...I love it all.

  3. I've never made it to Arizona but I have family there and they're big fans!

I'm from cough:New Jersey:cough and I don't exactly fly my state pride flag. My town is gorgeous and I love that we have all four seasons and the shore (MTV-free, thank you very much)but really a lot of NJ completely deserves the bad rep.

  4. We have never been to Arizone (besides just driving through) and I am dying to go this fall. I think I have bugged my husband more about a trip to Scottsdale than anything else lately! Such beautiful pictures!

Anyways Az is SO pretty the sun sets are out of this world, and the warm summer nights + cool rain storms are the things I missed most about Az when I lived in the whicked land of Chico.
